Registration FormWhile at Madison, DYA heard the story of the exploitation of the people of El Salvador who where displaced off their land by a corporate power. Fellow Dominicans went down to the area and where determined to raise enough money to help these people back onto their feet.
The most powerful thing about the people of El Salvador was that above anything else, they wanted a chapel built. The Domincan Family has reached out already contibuting around $10,000 dollars to the cause. Seeing the public strife in El Salidor, the Dominican Young Adults made the chapel their project for the year.
Currently construction is under way as funds continue to trickle down.
Recentally, the Chicago chapeter hosted an event that allowed students and facility at Dominican University to buy lego bricks for a dollar to build a church. This church would symbolize the church in El Salvador. At last count the fundraiser rased about $250 dollars that directly went towards building the church.
Portugal 2009
The newest member organization of the Dominican Family Dominican Young Adults USA received word from the International Dominican Youth Movement that they have been approved as an official chapter of the IDYM. This will allow the young adults of DYA USA to be active and voting members of the International movement and represent the United States Dominican Young Adults at the International meeting which will be held this summer in Fatima, Portugal!
Currently, the Dominican Young Adult leadership board has made plans to attend this conference in the upcoming summer. They are all very happy and proud to bring the American voice to the international spotlight
Congratulations and good luck to all the young adults who are participants in this organization! Safe Travels!
Local Chapters - Let us know about your chapter
Chicago's Chapter co-sponsered with The Students for Peace and Justice, a group of students commited to justice issues in the greater world, for a charity event for Hunger and Homeless Week at Dominican. All money raised was donated to local charities.
The local chapters from DYA are always moving and constantly coming up with new ideas. Recentally, the Chicago chapter celebrated the end of the year by hanging out with the Sinsinwa sisters of Dominican Universtiy. The event was a good way for the students to connect with the sisters, who give so much without asking.
Congradulations to all of our members on a productive first year full of learning.
